Evaluation

Prior to prescribing contact lenses, our Optometrists will determine what prescription is required to give you the best possible vision. Refractive errors (commonly known as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism) are evaluated by measuring how the eyes focus when a series of different lenses are placed in front of them. An optometrist may use either a manual phoropter or an automated instrument to take these measurements. Corrective Lenses

After determining the level of refractive error, the doctor works with you to determine whether contact lenses or glasses best suits your lifestyle. If you suffer from certain conditions, such as dry eye or allergies, glasses may be the most comfortable corrective solution. Different types of contact lenses are available including soft contacts and rigid gas permeable (RGP) contacts. Most contact lenses should not be worn overnight and the doctor will discuss the different replacement schedules during the contact lens fitting.
